Under 8s Day at Wurrumiyanga
Following the pre-school teddy bear picnics in Wurrumiyanga and Milkapiti, we recognised that younger students often miss out or are swamped by the older kids at community events.
In response, with the support of many community stakeholders, we developed an Under 8s Day aimed at instilling a love of learning at an early age, engaging with parents and carers, and encouraging stakeholders to be positive role models in the community.
We held our first Under 8s Party in Wurrumiyanga in September. The event was a big hit, attended by over 100 people, including 30 parents and children from classes 3-4 and below, and their teachers. Everyone contributed and worked well together to create a very fun day for our littlest community members.
We would like to thank Tai Du for donating all the food and drinks, TIRC for access to the location and facilities, Nguiu Club for the speaker system, Red Cross for the BBQ, and Xavier students for making the amazing posters and running activities on the day. Many other organisations provided goodie bags and activities.
Special thanks our CDP Women’s activity participants for helping on the day, and CDP Men’s activity participants for getting the site ready for the event, cooking a yummy BBQ, and then tidying up afterwards, leaving the area spick and span.
