Savoury snacks on the menu
In 2020/21 our SNP teams in Pirlangimpi and Milikapiti faced some challenges due to the pandemic, but quickly implemented safe work procedures. We are proud of their achievement in being able to continue to deliver healthy school meals and snacks, as well as supporting community events.
As always, our teams passed their Public Health Service assessments, including kitchen cleanliness and use of biodegradable single-use containers and cutlery to minimise harm to the environment. In addition, staff attended Certificate I in Retail Services training, online Safe Food Handling (pictured, SNP team members Irene Tipiloura, Aggie Lorenzo and Petrina Puruntatameri) and First Aid training to provide first aid to children and adults.
This year, the team also worked closely with Jenae Fortae, Public Health Nutritionist/Dietitian for Top End Health Service. With improvements to our menu and portion sizes, we now exceed the NT School Nutrition and Healthy Eating Policy and the NHMRC Australian Dietary Guidelines. Congratulations ladies!
Savoury snacks like banana oat muffins and banana cake were added to fruit breaks so that meals are more filling and students can stay more focused in class in the afternoons. Savoury snacks are now counted amongst our favourite meals, along with spaghetti Bolognese, shepherd’s pie, and chicken curry.
All our meals are made from scratch, we cook the cakes and muffins ourselves and are always willing to try new recipes. We continue working with suppliers to ensure we are getting the freshest produce and value for money. Here are some delicious crowd-pleasing dishes you can try at home!
