Through all programs offered at the Pularumpi School, there is a strong recognition and inclusion of Tiwi culture and the community.
The Pularumpi School takes students from Preschool to Year 8. Attendance is high and children come to school knowing that they are safe and unlikely to be teased or bullied or experience violence. We have four key values that underpin everything we do:
- Respect (for self, community and property)
- “Have a go”
Each day commences at 8:00am with the STRAW program (Start with Talking, Reading And Writing) for 30 minutes. For numeracy, we use the Count Me in Too program. On Thursdays we offer activities including guitar, cooking, singing, dance and film making. In Year 3 Fridays are focused on developing strong culture. Elders from the community take part in this cultural program.
Families and the community are invited to attend school assemblies and events. Notices are posted on community noticeboards.
