Great way to start the day
According to Chris Brogan, CDP Engagement Officer, ‘work for the dole’ participants are happy and laughing early in the morning, enjoying a coffee together and planning their day.
“Sometimes when we go to the social club later that evening they’re still talking about what they’ve done today. When we have BBQ days the whole community comes!” he said.
Chris is one of TITEB’s friendly staff working in Pirlangimpi to help job seekers meet their Centrelink agreements. Job seekers can talk with Chris about what is getting in the way of participating fully. Chris will then talk to other TITEB staff and see how they can help resolve the issues.
Participating in CDP activities helps job seekers to connect with their community, and develop the skills and confidence to find proper employment. Some of the ways we can help are:
- Understand your work skills and dreams
- Training to improve literacy and numeracy
- Formal education and training
- On-the-job training
- Help applying for jobs
- Negotiating flexible work arrangements
- Ongoing mentoring and support
- Cross-cultural training for employers.
