Want to work in construction?
CDP community construction projects are helping Tiwi men get qualified for work in the construction industry, including gaining their Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card). As part of their training, job seekers learn to operate different machinery including bobcats, tractor, and backhoe/loader in a safe environment.
CDP Supervisor, Noel Galarla said that last year the men worked on construction projects including the Women’s Centre and community BBQ shelters. They also worked around the community, collecting hard rubbish and cleaning up people’s yards.
With the NT Government rolling out $1.1 billion housing in remote communities, more construction jobs will become available. The Government are committed to employing locals to renovate and build new homes, and manage housing.
