2023 TITEB Graduation

In August 2023, we were excited to hold our first TITEB Graduation in five years. The community gathered to celebrate the hard work and achievements of more than 100 Tiwi learners.

Held at the Nguiu Club, the day was filled with acoustic music, traditional dancing, and a special performance by the Ngarukuruwala Women’s Group, blending Tiwi culture with education.

The event marked a return to recognising adult learning on the Tiwi Islands, where we focus on building skills through both western and Tiwi ways of learning.

TITEB Co-chair Karina Coombes spoke about the importance of helping people build their literacy, numeracy and job-ready skills, and thanked our training partners including CDU, Batchelor Institute, Creswick Timber and Trainsafe Australia.

CEO Maria Harvey reminded everyone of the Tiwi tradition of learning and celebrating success. She thanked all the Tiwi participants and partners who make our training programs possible. We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved and what’s still to come!
