Healthy & delicious school meals

We know that a healthy, well-balanced diet can help children think clearly and feel more alert. It can also improve their concentration and attention span. At Pirlangimpi and Milikapiti schools, TITEB’s School Nutrition Program (SNP) teams deliver healthy meals and snacks for students and invaluable education and advice for families.

This year we added a savoury element to afternoon fruit breaks, which are now more filling and help students stay focused in class in the afternoons. The newly-introduced afternoon snacks are very popular, including cheese and biscuits, banana oat muffins or banana cake, along with fresh fruit.

We continue to work with suppliers to ensure we are getting the freshest possible produce and value for money. We purchase our fresh fruit and vegetables on a weekly basis and purchase packaged products in bulk to bring the cost down and save on freight.

Turtle Dreaming Camp

This year, Pirlangimpi team members Rebekah Yunupingu and Patricia Puruntatmeri also assisted Pularumpi School with their Turtle Dreaming Camp, providing healthy lunches for students, teachers, and community members. The students also helped to prepare the meals, gaining an understanding of why we use fresh produce and the benefits of eating healthy meals.

Milikapiti

At Milikapiti, Agnes Lorenzo and Petrina Puruntatmeri continue to assist the Milikapiti School whenever there are functions at the school, including on country trips, BBQs for special events, open days and concerts.

In addition to afternoon snacks, our most popular meals are spaghetti bolognese, shepherd’s pie, and chicken curry. Click here for some of our delicious recipes.
