Wajijapi Women’s Centre
The Wajijapi Women’s Centre in Pirlangimpi continues to be a strong and welcoming place for Tiwi women. Grounded in culture and community, the Centre supports local women and families through art, storytelling, health, and connection.
In 2024, we expanded our services and built new partnerships. One exciting addition is the women’s Telehealth sessions, run in partnership with Menzies Health and the Pirlangimpi Clinic. Every Thursday, women can have private video appointments with a female doctor.
The Centre has also been active in fundraising, holding secondhand clothing stalls for the Tiwi churches. Our staff have supported many families by making skirts and fabric for funerals and ceremonies.
Interest in our arts and crafts has grown, with more visitors coming to buy Tiwi-designed fabrics. We now have four permanent part-time staff who are all working towards their Certificate II in Visual Arts. It’s been a great year of growth, and we thank everyone for their continued support.
