20th Anniversary Celebration

TITEB’s 20th Anniversary was held at Wurrumiyanga Community, Bathurst Island on 10th October 2019. We hosted VIPs from TITEB past and present including Norm Buchan, Liz Crosby, Bill Knights and Board Members, as well as Lawrence Costa, Marion Scrymgour and CEOs from stakeholder organisations.

The day started with a smoking ceremony followed by speeches, traditional dancing, a delicious lunch and, of course, a gigantic cake. We also had a live band who played for the afternoon. Everyone had a great time dancing and catching up with family and friends.

There were a number of speeches. Past CEO Norm Buchan spoke about TITEB early days in 1998 and the extraordinary community effort it took to establish the Group Training Organisation, Registered Training Organisation, training facilities and accommodation.

We also heard from our Chairman Leslie Tungatalum, CEO Maria Harvey and Pirrawayingi Puruntatameri who was the first TITEB Chair and active board member until 2019. Pirrawayingi has made an extraordinary contribution to TITEB over the last 20 years.
