Located on Bathurst Island, Wurrumiyanga community (Nguiu) is the largest Tiwi community, with a population of 1600 people.
Wurrumiyanga is home to around 350 school-aged children. Wurrumiyanga has two schools: Murrupurtiyanuwu Catholic Primary School (MCPS) and Xavier Catholic College, catering for pre-school to Year 13.
TITEB employs an RSAS Team for MCPS and Xavier College. Teams are coordinated by the RSAS Coordinator, who is based in Wurrumiyanga community. Each team has a full-time School Attendance Supervisor and 3-4 School Attendance Officers.
RSAS Teams provide a bus service to help students get to school safely. Children can either walk to school or wait at the front of the house for collection. For families living in Enrail or Forestry, the bus will come past a few times from 7.30 each morning.
The RSAS Team 100% local. Local staff represent each family or skin group in Wurrumiyanga, so that they are able to engage with children and families in a culturally appropriate manner.
