School Meals at Melville

School Meals at Melville

Categories: School, Milikapiti, Pirlangimpi

Our School Nutrition Program continues to provide healthy meals for Tiwi students in both Milikapiti and Pirlangimpi.

At Milikapiti, staff Agnes Lorenzo and Patrina Puruntatameri (pictured) serve up nutritious breakfasts, morning teas, and lunches for 35–50 children each day. Their meals help support school attendance and promote healthy eating. They’ve also supported school events like Return to School walks, sports carnivals and on-country learning.

At Pirlangimpi, student numbers dropped slightly this year after a big Year 7 class moved on, but we still serve meals to 25–32 students daily. In 2024, TITEB upgraded the kitchen with new exhaust canopies and a chest freezer to boost storage. Staff completed food safety training, and Janine Puruntatameri (pictured with staff member, Kimberley Pirlangimpi) joined the team after work experience.

Across both sites, we’re proud of our hardworking staff and looking forward to more training opportunities in catering and running strong nutrition programs for Tiwi children.
