Why go to school?

The law says that all children in Australia must go to school every day, Monday to Friday. This is because going to school every day and getting a good education leads to a better future for the child and the whole community.

It’s just as important for Tiwi children to go to school every day as it is for children in the city. We need to increase attendance rates for Tiwi children so that the future looks bright for all Tiwi.

Tiwi schools build language and culture into all aspects of the school learning program. To help develop strong culture, elders from the community are involved in cultural programs for the students. Families are also encouraged to get involved in school activities and outcomes are shared with the community.
