Tiwi Women gaining vital knowledge

This month, five amazing ladies from Wurrumiyanga CDP Womens activity were featured in a CDU article ‘Students going ‘bananas’ over horticulture.’ Over the past 10 months the Wurrumiyanga women have been traveling into Darwin to complete their Certificate II in Horticulture. This has been a huge achievement for the ladies and the Tiwi Community.

CDU VET Lecturer, Robyn Wing, has been with the ladies throughout the course and built a strong connection with them. She is so proud of their work.

“This dedicated group of women have been challenged, excited, exhausted and rewarded by starting and completing a program which culturally may be seen as a men’s program,” said Robyn.

The women have also been busy in Wurrumiyanga preparing their own veggie patch. The Women’s Centre has newly purchased new garden equipment and they are all looking forward to using the skills they learnt throughout the course to beautify and feed our community.

In December the ladies will be graduating with CDU graduates. TITEB is very proud of the ladies involved and hopes they will share their knowledge and new skills with the other Tiwi women. Congratulations ladies on your outstanding achievement!
